With over 33 years in business, our team feels like family, and we're proud to have staff members who have been with us for over 20 years.

At La Tortilandia, we value our community and invite you to enjoy a meal that celebrates diverse flavors.

The Founders – A Family Dream

La Tortilandia began as a dream brought to life by Juan and Gudelia, husband and wife, father and mother, the business duo built this restaurant from the ground. With no formal culinary training, but years of kitchen wisdom passed down from their own parents, they opened the doors to La Tortilandia with one goal: to bring the authentic flavors of Mexico to Fort Worth, using fresh ingredients and traditional recipes that reminded them of home.

The menu reflects their roots — a flavorful blend of bold, street-style dishes from Mexico City, where Juan was born, and the rich, soulful traditions of Zacatecas, where Gudelia grew up. It wasn’t about trends or shortcuts — it was about making real food, the right way, for the community they loved.

The Backbone of Our Story

Behind every dish at La Tortilandia are two incredible cooks who’ve been with us for over five decades combined. In an industry where turnover is common, their loyalty and commitment are something truly rare, unheard of nowadays in the restaurant industry. Margarita (pictured right) has been with us for 27 years — a steady hand and a comforting presence through every chapter of our story. Sra. Lisa (pictured left) has been 25 years by our side, played a key role in building this restaurant in its early days, helping lay the foundation for everything we've become, and true leader to our ladies in the back.

They’re not just employees — they’re part of the family. Their skill, consistency, and dedication have shaped the soul of our kitchen. Day in and day out, they’ve helped carry on our traditions with love, precision, and pride. They know the recipes by heart — not because they memorized them, but because they lived them. That’s why every plate we serve tastes like home.

We also want to honor the many others who’ve passed through our kitchen and dining room over the years. Their time, energy, and hard work helped keep La Tortilandia running through good times and hard ones. Every shift, every rush, every late night left an imprint — and their contribution is not forgotten. We’re grateful for each and every one of you.

Our History & Community

Our story begins on Hemphill Street — the heart of Fort Worth’s south side. When we arrived, it was a neighborhood filled with hard-working Hispanic families, supported by the steel factory that once powered the area. Hemphill was alive with movement, culture, and community — and it was here that La Tortilandia took its first breath.

It all started with a small food truck. From that humble beginning, we grew to three restaurants — on Hemphill, on Berry, and on McCart. What a dream. We were among the first to bring real, authentic Mexican food to south Fort Worth — the kind of food that makes people pause, smile, and remember home. The kind of food that brings generations to the same table — young growing old, and old growing young again.

Over time, the business evolved. We eventually consolidated into a single location on Berry Street, which today sits at the crossroads of two worlds: the deep-rooted Mexican community from the south side and the Texan-American students and families from the nearby TCU area. Berry became a cultural melting pot, and La Tortilandia stood as a bridge — a place where gringos and raza alike could gather over tacos, tortas, margaritas and shared memories.

Hemphill and Berry are still changing. Gentrification is arriving slowly, and the future can feel uncertain. But one thing has always been true — and always will be: Mexican food has a way of bridging gaps, of bringing people together across language, background, and experience. That’s what La Tortilandia was built on, and that’s what we’ll always stand for.
